Prof. Israel Agaku is the Founder, CEO and Chief Scientific Officer at Chisquares. He has a Dental Medical Doctor with Masters in Public Health from Harvard School of Public Health, Boston. He had his Fellowship in Epidemic Intelligence Service, CDC, Atlanta; and studied PhD in Epidemiology at the University of Georgia, Athens. He had his Residency in Dental Public Health (specialty training) at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, National Institutes of Health Bethesda, and then a second PhD in Health Systems at the University of Pretoria, Pretoria South Africa. He finally had his MBA degree at the Quantic School of Business and Technology at D.C.
Prof. Agaku is currently the Global Director for Epidemiology and Real-World Evidence at Zatum LLC. He has worked as a Senior Scientist at the CDC, as a Research Fellow and Associate at the Harvard Center for Global Tobacco Control and Office of Research Strategy and Development, Harvard School of Public Health respectively. He has also worked at a Dental Officer at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Nigeria; Adjunct Clinical Professor at the Division of Oral Epidemiology and Dental Public Health, University of California in San Francisco; as an Extraordinary Lecturer at the School of Health Systems and Public Health, University of Pretoria, South Africa and as Adjunct Professor at the Department of Oral Health Policy and Epidemiology, Harvard School of Dental Medicine.
In his teaching practice, Prof. Agaku developed a Course on Design, Implementation, Analysis and Reporting of Complex Survey data for Masters and Doctoral students at the Harvard School of Public Health. He lectures Introduction to Epidemiology course at undergraduate level at the University of Georgia; and Mechanics of systematic reviews and meta-analysis for Masters and Doctoral students at the Boston University, at University of Ibadan, and the University of California at San Francisco. He is a member of national and international bodies including Society for the Research on Nicotine and Tobacco, Society for the Prevention of Tobacco Induced Diseases, American Association of Public Health Dentistry, Nigerian Medical Association and Nigerian Dental Association. He is currently contributing on the European Centers for Disease Control (ECDC) systematic reviews as a consultant at the university of Crete.
Prof. Agaku is a board-certified public health expert with extensive experience in synthesizing clinical evidence to develop health policies. He has strong experience with the design of observational and experimental studies as well as in-depth knowledge of CDISC standards including CDASH, ADaM, and SDTM. He is an advanced programmer and have a strong proficiency in software engineering and experience in engaging key external experts and various stakeholders in the regulatory, clinical, and public health environments as well as communicating and presenting technical information to a wide variety of internal stakeholders and external audiences. He has developed and published educational materials and products, particularly, a Step-by-Step guide for the analyses of complex survey data separately in R, Stata, Python and Epi-Info; and Practical considerations for designing and implementing web surveys
As a solution-driven leader and negotiator with excellent project management and cross-functional collaboration skills, his research interests span across the infectious and chronic disease domains, with a focus on improving health-related quality of life among individuals with long-term, incurable conditions. He has won several and millions of grants and served as Principal Investigator on diverse researches. He has published extensively in diverse journals and is an editor as such for many and his conference presentations, uncountable. He has supervised several masters and doctoral students from various institutions towards graduating with distinction.
