Overview

Course Description

This three part series of CPD seeks to educate Pharmacists on the nature of asthma, identifying measures that promote and enhance patient self-management, becoming more familiar with the GINA guidelines and several other important and topical issues related to the management of Asthma.

Upon completion of the THREE Courses in the Breath Plus Series, participants should generally be able to:

i. Identify the role of pharmacists in asthma management
ii. Better review asthma therapy, and apply individualized medication procedures
iii. Provide patient counselling and ensure continuity of care
iv. Reassess SABA over-reliance, based on questionnaires; and identify the role of SABA ruler of the International Primary Care Respiratory Group (IPCRG)
v. Help in administering GINA questionnaires on Asthma control and providing asthma care in keeping with the GINA guidelines

What you will learn

At the end of Series – ONE, participant Pharmacists should be able to:
- Provide education on the nature of the disease to the patient
- Help patients in identifying early warning signs of asthma and its exacerbation; identifying patients requiring early referral
- Identify measures promoting enhancement of patient self-management
- Present the GINA Guidelines and how the patient can judge if his asthma is or isn’t under control
- Explain to, the patient and emphasize the important of treatment adherence
- Present the specificities of a turbohaler and demonstrate how to use it so that participant Pharmacists can then counsel patients on the use
