Dr. Bonney is a locally trained Emergency Medicine Specialist under the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons. He holds a Master’s in Public Health, specialized in Health Service Planning and Management from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. Currently, he works as an Emergency Medicine Specialist/Attending at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital’s Emergency Medicine Directorate. The Directorate is the largest and host the only residency training program in West Africa. His job description includes clinical management of emergency cases, supervision junior colleagues, and heads The Research and Innovations’ Office.

Dr. Bonney has a Master in Disaster Medicine through the European Masters for Disaster Medicine Program and successfully graduated from the University of Eastern Piedmont with an MSc DM. He partnered with 2016/2017 Fulbright-Fogarty Fellow in developing an evidence-based algorithm to manage mass casualty incidence and surge capacity. This was nation-wide training program in which and 300 health workers were trained who are now playing a key role in the fight against novel Corona Virus Pandemic. Since 2015, he has been part of a team of physicians training locals in Basic life support (BLS) and Advanced Emergency Trauma Course (AETC). Currently we have trained over 1000 medical students, nurses, doctors, and Emergency Medical Technicians. His goal has always been to be the best, a team player with great interpersonal skills, leadership qualities and ability to work under pressure with people from diverse backgrounds. He strives to incorporate operational research into my daily practice of Emergency Medicine in Ghana as one of the forty certified specialists for the entire population of nearly 30 million. This increases the impact of his care to the entire population. Dr. Bonney has played key roles in the setup of the novel Emergency Medicine Research and Innovations’ office and he has led teams in collaborative research with NIH-sponsored Fulbright and Fogarty Fellows. Through this office, I have successful applied for multiple grants and propelled the team on several projects resulting in over 20 presentations at International conferences in South Africa, Canada, Egypt and Australia. He is recently a member of the African coaLition for Epidemic Research, Response and Training (ALERRT) and Global Health and Infectious Diseases Research Group of Kumasi Collaborative Center for Research in Tropical Medicine.
