Overview
Course Description
Good glycemic control remains the foundation of managing Type 2 Diabetes as it plays a vital role in preventing or delaying the onset and progression of diabetic complications. Pharmacological agents influence the outcome of glycemic control and it is important that a patient-centered approach should guide the choice of oral anti-diabetic drugs.
Through the expert opinions of an endocrinologist, a cardiologist, and a nephrologist, this course will focus on how patient characteristics inform the choice of oral anti-diabetic drugs.
What you will learn
At the end of the course, participants should be able to
1. Determine the different classes of oral hypoglycemic agents and how they contribute to glycemic control
2. Understand the place of each class in managing Type 2 diabetes per the recommendation by guidelines
3. Determine the factors that inform the choice of specific classes
4. Appreciate the contribution of each specialty to patient outcome in managing Type 2 diabetes
