Overview
Course Description
The management of people with diabetes who fast during Ramadan has generally been based on expert opinion rather than medical evidence gained from scientific data. However, the introduction of the First Edition of IDF-DAR Diabetes and Ramadan Practical Guidelines, 2016 provided a practical tool to help HCPs support their approach to safely guide people with diabetes who wish to fast the holy Month of Ramadan.
Diabetes is a major health problem throughout the world because of its high prevalence and its association with increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Identifying and treating risk factors in patients at high risk of cardiovascular events is essential and management with the most appropriate medication plays significant role in reducing its progression.
This CPD will help us understand the rational of the DAR Diabetes and Ramadan Practical Guidelines which aims to provide HCPs with the latest evidence-based recommendations, allowing them to deliver the best possible care and support for people with diabetes fasting during Ramadan.

At the end of the meeting, these are the learning objectives;
1. Identify the therapeutic recommendations for managing the diabetic patient during fasting
2. The importance of the Diabetes Ramadan guidelines for fasting patients
3. Understand the benefits on the use of Sulphonylureas in T2DM patients during fasting, using concrete clinical case study of a patient controlled with metformin + Gliclazide MR
