Clinical and professional expertise alone does not automatically prepare a person to lead people, manage services or deliver results through a team.
In healthcare, professionals may assume leadership responsibilities through appointment, seniority, professional progression or rank, often with limited formal preparation for the complex people-management and service-delivery responsibilities that accompany these roles.
Clinical Leadership & Healthcare Management for Unit and Department Heads is a practical and highly interactive Continuing Professional Development course designed to strengthen the leadership and management capabilities of healthcare professionals and other personnel entrusted with responsibility for departments, units, teams and services.
Under the theme “Leading People. Managing Services. Delivering Results,” the course moves beyond leadership theory to address the everyday realities of managing a healthcare service: setting priorities and standards, delegating effectively, supervising staff, handling difficult conversations, managing conflict, motivating teams, making sound decisions, coordinating resources, responding to complaints and incidents, promoting quality and patient safety, and maintaining accountability for results.
The training will be facilitated by highly qualified, skilled and experienced resource persons using practical presentations, facilitated discussions, healthcare-based scenarios, case exercises and shared experiences.
As part of the GPH Care Plus Staff Training & Culture Transformation Programme, this module supports the Ghana Police Hospital's broader commitment to developing its people alongside investments in infrastructure, equipment and clinical services.
WHY YOU SHOULD ATTEND
Being an excellent clinician, technical professional or senior officer does not necessarily make leadership easy. Once you become responsible for a department, unit or team, your performance is increasingly measured not only by what you personally do, but also by how effectively the people and services under your leadership perform.
This course will help participants become more deliberate, confident and effective leaders. It provides practical approaches to managing people, setting expectations, delegating responsibilities, addressing underperformance, resolving workplace conflict, coordinating services and creating an environment in which staff can perform at their best.
It is particularly valuable for personnel who have recently assumed leadership or supervisory responsibilities, experienced leaders seeking to strengthen their management practice, and emerging leaders preparing for greater responsibility.
If you lead people, supervise a team, manage a unit or influence how healthcare services are delivered, this course is for you.
