Overview

Course Description

BAYER Pharmaceuticals in collaboration with the National Cardiothoracic Centre (NCTC) will be delivering a series of cardiovascular lectures. The first of the series is themed; Coronary Artery Disease.

The Cardiovascular Lecture Series has been instituted as an annual event. The 2022 series has been expanded to include many more topics which capture a wider range of pathologies causing significant cardiovascular morbidities. The series aims to equip medical practitioners within and beyond the cardiology discipline with key knowledge fundamentals, important time-bound interventions and the latest trends and up-to-date guidelines in the chosen cardiovascular disease topics.

This event aims to empower participants to appreciate the processes and mechanisms that underly the pathology of coronary artery disease. This will impact in early diagnosis and institution of interventions.

The course will also highlight the principles of intervention, pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic. The effectiveness of management is dependent on many factors, which will be clearly stated in the course. The last segment of the course will expand on the surgical interventions that are available for the doctor, the indications, techniques, and the expected outcomes.

What you will learn

• Participants are expected to learn the risk factors underlying the aetiology of CAD, including novel risk factors.
• Participants will also learn about the interaction between risk and environmental factors in the initiation of CAD.
• Course participants are expected to learn about the biochemical mechanisms underlying the pathophysiologic processes of CAD.
• Course participants will also learn about how to intervene medically to curtail the progression of CAD in the emergency and non-emergency settings.
• The course will also highlight the locally available treatment and the successes of the local programme
• The course will also empower participants especially non-cardiologists to help expand access to cardiovascular care using well-trained general practitioners and cardiologists.
