Prof. Vincent Boima is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana Medical School and a
Consultant Nephrologist at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. He is the head of the Renal Unit in the Department of Medicine and Therapeutics.

He is the representative University of Ghana Medical School on the College of Health Sciences Academic Board. He is also a member of the Africa Regional Board for Internal Society of Nephrology.

Dr Boima is a Fellow of the Colleges of Medicine South Africa; West African College of
Physicians; Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons and the International Society of
Nephrology. He has memberships with the South African Renal Society and the American
Society of Nephrology. He is also the secretary of the Ghana Kidney Association and the
Ghana Chapter, internal Medicine faculty of the West African College of Physicians. He holds
a Master’s degree in Public Health.

His research interest is in the psychological well-being of Chronic Kidney Disease. He has over 40 publications in peer review journals. These publications have made a significant impact on non-communicable diseases (NCD) and mental health. Data from these publications will serve as baseline information for future prospective and interventional studies that will reveal the impact of psychological distress in patients with NDCs.

Dr Boima is the principal and co-principal investigator on two grants awarded by the ORID with the following reference numbers; UGRF/8/SF-015/2014-2015 and URF/7/ILG-029/2013-2014 respectively. The outcomes of these works have been published in the Journal of Clinical Transplantation and the Journal of the African Association of Nephrology (AFRAN). A second manuscript from the grant with reference number UGRF/8/SF-015/2014-2015 has been accepted for publication by the Journal of Transplantation proceedings.

He is a co-investigator on other ORID grants and has been involved in the day-to-day management of these grants. Dr. Boima is a co-investigator on the H3-Africa Kidney Disease Network grants sponsored by NIH and Wellcome Trust. This grant seeks to investigate the genetic predisposition of chronic kidney disease looking at variants of APOL1 (G1/G2).

He has been involved in the design and execution of these grants. He is Co-PI on a number of grants under the H3-Africa Kidney Disease Network.
