
Dr. William A. Ankobiah is a highly experienced and respected physician specializing in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine, and critical care. He currently serves as the CEO, President, and Physician-in-Chief of Bemuah Royal Hospital in Accra, Ghana, where he plays a key role in overseeing the hospital’s operations and ensuring the delivery of high-quality care. Dr. Ankobiah also serves as a Consultant in Pulmonary and Critical Care at 37 Military Hospital and the International Maritime Hospital, both located in Ghana. In addition to his clinical duties, he holds academic appointments as an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana’s School of Public Health and as clinical faculty for the postgraduate physician program at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
Dr. Ankobiah’s education includes a medical degree from the University of Ghana Medical School and advanced training in internal medicine and pulmonary medicine at the State University of New York Health Sciences Center at Brooklyn. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Pulmonary Medicine, with multiple recertifications in both specialties. Additionally, he holds certifications as an instructor in Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support from the American Heart Association.
Throughout his career, Dr. Ankobiah has received numerous awards and recognition, including being named Attending Physician of the Year at Interfaith Medical Center and being listed in the Castle Connolly Medical Guide as one of the "Best Doctors in the New York Metropolitan Area." He has also been recognized as the Best Doctor in Internal Medicine at 37 Military Hospital in Accra. His professional memberships include fellowships with the American College of Physicians and the American College of Chest Physicians, as well as being a faculty member of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons.
Dr. Ankobiah has a strong background in academic leadership and community health initiatives. He has served as a medical student preceptor, peer reviewer for various journals, and as the chairman of several healthcare committees. He was also involved in the creation and coordination of the American Heart Association's CPR Instructor Training Program in collaboration with the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Ankobiah is a prolific researcher, with numerous published articles and abstracts on pulmonary diseases, particularly tuberculosis and its relationship with AIDS. He has presented his research at international conferences and contributed to key publications in medical journals. His work continues to shape the field of pulmonary medicine, both in Ghana and internationally, as he remains dedicated to advancing healthcare practices and medical education.
