Prof. Joseph Atiah Akamah is an accomplished and extensively trained medical professional with a rich educational background. He obtained his M.B., Ch.B. (Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery) from the University of Ghana Medical School, Accra, Ghana. Furthering his expertise, he pursued an M.P.H. in Epidemiology at the University of Illinois, Chicago, and received comprehensive training in various medical disciplines across prestigious institutions in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Prof. Akamah has held significant academic appointments, starting from his role as an Attending Physician at Rush Medical School, Chicago, Illinois, USA, from 2000 to 2008. His commitment to medical education is evident in his various roles, including serving as a faculty member at the American College of Cardiology and as a Visiting Senior Lecturer and Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at the University for Development Studies and Tamale Teaching Hospital.

In addition to his academic pursuits, Prof. Akamah has made substantial contributions to healthcare institutions. He served as the Director of Cardiovascular Education at Meharry Medical College, Nashville, Tennessee, USA, and played a crucial role as the Director of Ghana EMS Education, Training, and Research at the National Ambulance Service, Ghana. His leadership extended to being the Head of Cardiology and Director of the Cardiovascular Training Program at the University of Ghana and Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

Prof. Akamah holds various certifications, including being certified in Nuclear Cardiology, Echocardiography, and Interventional Cardiology by reputable boards. He has been actively involved in research and has published extensively in international journals. His commitment to advancing cardiovascular health in Ghana is evident in his founding roles in organizations such as "Wyndat Heart," dedicated to promoting cardiovascular health among women and children, and the initiation of the American College of Cardiology membership drive in Ghana.

Moreover, Prof. Akamah has made significant strides in improving emergency medical services (EMS) in Ghana. He led the revision of the national curriculum for EMS education, introduced the USA National Registry for Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) evaluation methods, and mentored EMS educators. His philanthropic initiatives include founding organizations like BONABOTO-North America and Postgraduate Decision-Making Assistance, aimed at supporting Ghanaians in their medical careers.
