Dr. Edward Bright Agyekum is an accomplished professional and the Director of the Procurement and Supply Chain Directorate at the Ministry of Health, Accra, Ghana. With 29 years of extensive experience in procurement management and public administration, he is recognized for his expertise in procurement practices and system strengthening. Over the years, he has demonstrated exceptional capacity to establish transparent, competitive, and accountable procurement systems that ensure fairness and deliver value for money.
Dr. Agyekum has played a pivotal role in enhancing procurement systems across various sectors. Notably, he built the capacities of principals, directors, and procurement and supply managers at Public Health Training Institutions, fostering accountability and efficiency in procurement processes. His efforts contributed significantly to the procurement of 325 ambulance vehicles and hospital beds under the Ministry of Special Development Initiatives. Additionally, he led capacity-building initiatives for 25 state attorneys and 20 state prosecutors in public procurement laws under the Ministry of Justice and Attorney-General’s Department.
Internationally, Dr. Agyekum facilitated the training of procurement officers in Sierra Leone under the WAHO Program for Regional Reproductive Health and HIV Prevention within the ECOWAS region. His proficiency in World Bank procurement project regulations, coupled with expertise in Sustainability Training and E-Learning Program (STEP), further underscores his versatile capabilities in the field.
Academically, Dr. Agyekum holds a PhD in Supply Chain Management, alongside advanced degrees in Procurement, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, and Healthcare Management. He also possesses a Bachelor of Science in Administration and a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration. Dr. Agyekum is an active contributor to several high-level committees. He serves as a Project Steering Committee Member for the Post-COVID-19 Skills Development and Productivity Enhancement Project and a Steering Committee Member for Traceability Strategy Development and Technical Committee. Professionally, he has been a Member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS), UK, since 2016, a Member of the Ghana Institute of Procurement and Supply (GIPS) since 2018, and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), London.
