Dr. Afua Owusua Darkwah Abrahams is a Senior Lecturer in Pathology and the Head of the Pathology Department at the University of Ghana Medical School and the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital Accra. She graduated from the University of Ghana Medical School Accra with a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBChB). She is a Fellow (Lab Med-Anatomic Pathology) of the West African College of Physicians as well as the Ghana College of Physicians & Surgeons.
She also has a Certificate in Health Administration and Management from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).
Dr. Abrahams is a member of a number of professional bodies including the Ghana Medical Association, International Academy of Pathology (West African Division), and the African Organisation for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC). She also serves on several boards including the University of Ghana Academic Board., and on several professional committees such as the Continuous Professional Development Committee of the Ghana Medical & Dental Council and the Technical Committee of the Mortuary and Funeral Facilities Agency of the Ministry of Health.
Her research interest is Neoplasia, particularly malignant neoplasms (cancers), and she focuses on the genetics, diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes of cancer.
Dr. Abrahams has received professional honours and recognition from the University of Ghana Medical Students, International Academy of Pathology, Best Lecturer Award 2016 from the University of Ghana Graduate Entry Medical Program, and Best Worker Award Department of Pathology from Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
She has attended several national and international conferences and workshops where she has played key roles in conference organization and presented papers and posters. She has a number of publications mainly on prostate cancer and lymphoma.
