Dr. Abena Yeboah Aduse-Poku is a Clinical and Radiation Oncologist at the Department of Oncology, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, Ghana. She holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree as well as a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). Her academic journey includes successful completion of the Part I and Part II Membership Examinations of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons. Her dissertation explored the factors influencing the patronage of traditional medicine in Assin North Municipality, showcasing her dedication to understanding healthcare systems and patient behavior.
Dr. Aduse-Poku’s career has been marked by extensive clinical and academic experience. She currently serves as a Senior Resident and Fellow-in-Training at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, specializing in Radiotherapy and Oncology. Her commitment to mentoring is reflected in her role as an adjunct faculty member at the Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives, where she contributes to oncology nursing education. Her tenure at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital spans over a decade, during which she has advanced from Junior House Officer roles to her current position as a Clinical and Radiation Oncologist.
In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Aduse-Poku has actively contributed to oncology research. Her publications cover topics ranging from male breast cancer to the survival outcomes of pediatric cancer patients in resource-limited settings. Her research on oncology training programs has been featured in international journals, and her work has been presented at esteemed conferences such as the International Society of Pediatric Oncology and the Ghana Cancer Summit. She has also participated in community-based research on postpartum depression and access to affordable cancer treatment in Ghana.
Dr. Aduse-Poku has attended numerous international and regional training programs, including advanced oncology training at the Mayo Clinic in the USA and pediatric oncology courses in Germany and Tanzania. Her participation in global conferences, such as the Lynn Sage Breast Cancer Symposium and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) workshops, reflects her dedication to staying at the forefront of advancements in oncology care.
She is a member of several professional organizations, including the European Society of Medical Oncology, the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, and the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons. Her accolades include the Chicago Sister Cities International Medical Initiative Award and recognition as the Best Clinical Oncology Staff (Junior Category) at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Dr. Aduse-Poku is deeply involved in community service. She organizes annual breast cancer screenings during Pink October and volunteers as a health educator on various platforms. A committed Sunday school teacher at Winners Chapel International in Kumasi, she has also engaged in outreach programs targeting underserved communities and orphanages, underscoring her dedication to improving lives both inside and outside the clinical setting.
