ABOUT THE GCPS
The Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons (GCPS) stands as a beacon of excellence in the realm of medical education and professional development. Established by an Act of Parliament on the 28th of January 2003 (Act 635), and subsequently revised by Act 833 of 2011, the College plays a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of specialized medical training in Ghana.
The legislative framework provided by Act 833 outlines the core mandates of the GCPS, underscoring its commitment to the advancement of medicine, surgery, and related disciplines. These mandates include:
- Promotion of Specialist Education
- Facilitation of Continuous Professional Development
- Advancement of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research
- Contribution to Health Policies
THE ESSENCE OF THE 20TH AGSM: A MILESTONE CELEBRATION OF EXCELLENCE IN MEDICAL TRAINING
The 20th Annual General and Scientific Meeting (AGSM) of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons (GCPS) stands as a monumental occasion, symbolizing two decades of relentless dedication to the advancement of postgraduate medical training in Ghana. Themed "Two Decades of Postgraduate Medical Training in Ghana," this event serves as a testament to the pivotal role the GCPS plays in shaping the medical landscape of the nation.
INDUCTION OF MEMBERS AND FELLOWS
One of the hallmark features of this AGSM is the induction ceremonies for newly qualified members and fellows. On the 5th and 6th of December, distinguished individuals who have completed their rigorous training and demonstrated exceptional competence in their respective specialties will be officially inducted into the esteemed ranks of the GCPS.
There were two separate induction ceremonies. Members will be inducted on the 5th of December. Fellow: comprising Elected Fellows and Fellows by Examination will be inducted on the next day. The ceremonies will feature distinguished addresses, including the Rector's insightful remarks, an address by the Minister of Health, Honourable Kwaku Agyeman Manu, and a thought-provoking college lecture by Professor Kobinah Nkyekyer. Furthermore, the event will be graced by the presence of the Guest of Honour, His Excellency John Agyekum Kuffour, Former President of the Republic of Ghana, adding a touch of prestige to the induction proceedings.
SCIENTIFIC SESSIONS
Scheduled for the 7th of December, the Scientific Sessions represent the intellectual core of the AGSM. From 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, participants will engage in a dynamic exchange of knowledge, insights, and research findings. Renowned experts and scholars will present their latest research, innovations, and discoveries in various fields of medicine, surgery, and related disciplines. This session offers a platform for attendees to stay abreast of cutting-edge developments, fostering a culture of continuous learning and collaboration. The Scientific Sessions exemplify the commitment of the GCPS to advancing medical knowledge and facilitating a culture of research and innovation.
